KLM (IATA: KL, ICAO: KLM) is a passenger airline from Netherlands.

KLM has a 110 fleet size with 145 destinations. Its parent company is Air France- KLM and is headquartered in Amstelveen, Netherlands. KLM is a SkyTeam member. The hub is in Amsterdam in Schiphol.

KLM began in 1919, which makes it the world’s oldest airline, after several attendees of an aviation exhibition started talking about opening a Dutch commercial airline. Its first flight was in 1920 when it flew from London to Amsterdam in a De Havilland DH-16 bi-plane with two journalists and many newspapers on board. The first scheduled flights began in 1921.

KLM’s operations were restricted during WWII, and the airplanes were painted orange, so they were not confused with military planes. Many DC-3s and DC-2s were caught in the middle of their routes when Germany took over The Netherlands, so those flights were rerouted and grounded in Britain. In the years since WWII, KLM has added jets and other modern aircraft to its fleet. It made its first transatlantic flight in 2012 using biofuels. It has won the “Best Airline Staff Service” award twice and served 35.1 million passengers in 2019.

KLM Inflight Shopping

KLM announced in June 2019 that they were no longer offering duty free inflight shopping.

Miriam Kartman, Executive Vice President, KLM Inflight Services, said: “Because the current sales process no longer meets today’s customer requirements, we have decided, after extensive deliberation, to bring this to an end. As a result, passengers on our European flights will no longer be able to buy tax-free articles onboard from July 2019 and from January 2020 on our intercontinental flights.”
