The single asphalt concrete 1,841-meter runway saw 34,287 aircraft movements and 536,578 passengers in 2018. It has one terminal and serves five airlines, which include four airlines with seasonal flights to destinations like Jersey, Exeter and Rhodes.
NWI started in 1933 on the site of an aerodrome used during WWI and was moved to its current site in 1940, which was a former RAF station used during WWII by the RAF and the USAAF. After RAF left in 1967, the airport began civilian use, and it opened its main terminal in 1988. The remaining military buildings are in use as maintenance buildings, a flight school and commercial use. There is a museum owned by the City of Norwich that commemorates the airport’s history. The BBC show, Top Gear, staged a disruption of the airport for one of the episodes.
Parking is available for both long- and short-term, and a premium short-term lot is close to the terminal. Ground transportation includes buses, rail and taxis.
