Air Canada (IATA: AC, ICAO: ACA) is a passenger airline from Canada.

Air Canada offers 222 destinations on 316 airplanes, not including any of its subsidiaries. Its callsign is AIR CANADA. It is Canada’s largest airline in both fleet size and passengers served, which totaled 51.5 million in 2019, but dropped to 13.8 million in 2020 during the pandemic.

AC began as a federal government airline (Trans Canada Air Lines) in 1936, but in 1965, it was renamed and privatized by 1988. It merged with Canadian Airlines in 2000, but filed for bankruptcy in 2003 and reorganized under ACE Aviation Holding. In 2021, the government purchased 6.4 percent of the airline and may purchase more shares in the future.

Air Canada’s subsidiaries include Air Canada Cargo, Air Canada Vacations, Air Canada Express and six other Air Canada named services. It is a member of the Star Alliance and its fleet consists of Airbus A330, Boeing 777 and 787 Dreamliner crafts. Air Canada Vacations has 90 destinations. In 2004, Celine Dion was the spokesperson for Air Canada and her song, ‘You and I’ was included in the commercials.
