Manchester Airport (IATA: MAN, ICAO: EGCC), is an airport serving the Manchester area in United Kingdom. This airport has one 3,048-meter concrete runway and one 3,050 meter concrete/grooved asphalt runway that saw over 6 million passengers from 63,316 aircraft movements in 2020. This number of passengers is down significantly from its normal 29.3 million travelers.
MAN was opened in 1938, and during WWII, parachutists trained at the airport. After the war, the airport returned to civilian flights. Air France started flying out of the airport in 1946 and continues to fly there to date. By 1953, the airport was able to operate 24 hours, and MAN’s first transatlantic flight happened in 1963. There were 2 million passengers by 1971, and by 2010, it was prepared to handle the Airbus A380. There are three terminals and a VIP terminal.
All three terminals have multistory parking decks to accommodate long- and short-term parking. Ground transportation includes trains, buses and rental cars.
