It has one 2,076 meter asphalt runway that served 148,000 passengers in 2020, which is down from its normal 1 million passengers. It only saw 23,000 aircraft movements in 2020, which is 48 percent less than usual. It has one terminal, and seven airlines fly out of the airport, with three of them offering seasonal flights.
EXT opened in 1937 and its first terminal was a tent on the grounds. It became a critical airfield for the RAF during the Battle of Britain, and the U.S. used the airport to transport D-Day troops. At one point during the war, there were so many airplanes that they had to be parked on the grass. EXT also housed the air-sea rescue group for RAF. Once the airport was open to civilian use, charter flights to the Channel Islands started. In 2018, the runway was resurfaced and LED lights were installed.
Parking is offered for long- and short-term stays, and while there are no vehicle height restrictions, there are width restrictions. Ground transportation includes trains, taxis, buses and car rentals.
