British Airways to launch direct Canary Islands connection in October

Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, will soon become more accessible to UK holiday-makers than ever before, with British Airways announcing its first ever direct flight route from London Heathrow to Tenerife South airport.

The new service will be available from October to March next year and is perfect for Brits looking for a winter sunshine getaway.

The weekly flight will run from Heathrow, the UK’s largest airport, direct to Tenerife in just four and a half hours.

The new flight sets off at 06:45 every Saturday morning and lands at 11:15 local time, leaving visitors with plenty of the day left to enjoy.

The new addition from London Heathrow follows the huge success of the London Gatwick flights from British Airways which also fly to Tenerife South Airport.

As Tenerife is blessed with year-round sunshine, it is ideal for a winter holiday destination from the UK.

Visitors capitalising on the new British Airways service can look forward to Tenerife’s safe and family friendly resorts, and its diverse and beautiful landscape.

Outdoor adventurers won’t be disappointed either, as Tenerife has everything from mountain climbing and cycling, to whale watching, stargazing, and water sports like surfing and paddle boarding.

Alberto Bernabé, tourism minister for the Tenerife Island Government, said:

“We are extremely pleased with the new British Airways flight route from London Heathrow to Tenerife South airport.

“The announcement of this new service comes at a great time for us as last year saw visitor arrivals from the UK exceed two million for the very first time and this year’s arrivals are already showing an increase on these impressive results.”
