This airport has two 4,100-meter asphalt runways that 5.2 million passengers arrived and departed from in 2021. There were 74,174 aircraft movements, and it has three terminals with the ability to handle 30 million annual passengers with plans to double that number with the completion of the Midfield Terminal currently in developmental stages.
AUH was to bring the new nation of the United Arab Emirates into modern times, and it was opened in 1982. This airport was circular, which allowed more aircraft to be serviced at one time. In the 2000s, a second terminal was added, but it lacks jetbridges, so traffic is shuttled via bus to the planes. Another runway and another terminal were added in 2008 giving the airport 10 more gates with two of them having Airbus A380 compatibility. A bus network was added in the 2010s due to a lack of transportation services.
Parking is available for short- and long-term parking, as well as valet. In addition to the bus services, other ground transportation options include taxis, coaches, chauffeurs and rental cars.
