RwandAir hosts celebration of Rwandan culture in London

Following the successful launch of the first direct connection between Rwandan capital Kigali and the UK, RwandAir has hosted a showcase of Rwandan talent in London.

Select members of the travel trade and UK media were invited to the high commission of Rwanda in the capital for an evening of Rwanda food, drink and dance.

High commissioner of Rwanda in the UK, Yamina Karitanyi, said: “The launch of a direct route between London and Kigali is a major milestone for our country.

“Rwanda and the UK have great expectations for this flight; a crucial link in strengthening economic, cultural and trading relations between the two.”

The new route will be served by a new Airbus A330-200 offering travellers business, premium economy and economy class travel.

Flights depart London Gatwick on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays with a flight time of eight hours and 40 minutes.

Return fares start from £368.

Traditional Rwandan dance took centre stage at the event

Karitanyi added: “Rwanda is the safest country in Africa, has the most efficient government on the continent, and is rated is by Fitch with a B+ outlook, citing strong economic growth.

“We have emerged as a top global reformer in the eyes of the World Bank, and we now rank as the most competitive place to do business in east Africa.

“In tourism, Rwanda offers unique experiences, including gorillas in our national parks; a life changing experience for all those who visit!”

Rwanda welcomed 1.3 million visitors in 2016 attracted by the incredible scenery, opportunities to visit mountain gorillas and big game safari.

The recent arrival of black rhino in the country means that Rwanda is now offering one of the most comprehensive safari experiences anywhere on the African continent.


Union Roasted Coffee brought a taste of Rwanda to London

Yvonne Makolo, deputy chief executive of RwandAir, added: “This is our first European destination and the first connection between the UK and Kigali.

“The UK market is very important for Rwanda and, in turn, for RwandAir.

“From a trade perspective, we hope this flight will strengthen connections between the two nations.

“This is an opportunity for us, in terms of luxury travellers, businesses fliers, and cargo.”

For passengers with onward travel plans, Kigali International Airport offers a wide range of connections via RwandAir’s expanding route network providing easy and convenient access to a wide range of other African destinations.

The carrier currently offers 22 connections, with 19 within Africa.
