Deze luchthaven bediende in 2017 meer dan 23 miljoen passagiers op zijn twee asfaltbanen. Beide banen zijn iets meer dan 3.000 meter lang en zagen in 2017 215.930 vliegtuigbewegingen. Het heeft twee terminals; een is voor internationale vluchten en heeft 14 gates, en een is voor binnenlandse met 20 gates.
BNE kwam voort uit een landelijke luchthaven die in 1925 werd gebouwd en in 1926 de thuisbasis was van Qantas. De Fokker F.VII Southern Cross landde er na de eerste trans-pacifische vlucht, en staat nu in een museum op de luchthaven. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog gebruikte generaal MacArthur BNE als zijn hoofdkwartier; hij verbeterde het vliegveld voor militair gebruik, waardoor het later geschikt werd voor civiel gebruik. De luchthaven opende zijn deuren in 1988 en werd in 1997 geprivatiseerd op basis van een 50-jarige huurovereenkomst.
Kort- en lang parkeren is mogelijk, evenals gegarandeerde plaatsen op een overdekte parkeerplaats. Gegarandeerd parkeren is exclusief en kan alleen online worden geboekt. Vervoer omvat ride-share apps, treinen, bussen en huurauto’s.
