This airport serviced over 23 million passengers in 2017 on its two asphalt runways. Both runways are slightly over 3,000 meters long and saw 215,930 aircraft movements in 2017. It has two terminals; one is for international flights and has 14 gates, and one is for domestic with 20 gates.
BNE came from a rural airport that was built in 1925 and was the home to Qantas in 1926. The Fokker F.VII Southern Cross landed there after the first trans-pacific flight, and is now in a museum at the airport. During WWII, General MacArthur used BNE as his headquarters; he upgraded the airfield for military use, which made it suitable for civilian use later. The airport opened its doors in 1988 and was privatized in 1997 on a 50-year lease.
Short- and long-term parking is available, as well as guaranteed spaces in an undercover parking area. Guaranteed parking is exclusive that can only be booked online. Transportation includes ride-share apps, trains, buses and rental cars.
