Montego Bay Sangster International Airport is Jamaica’s busiest airport. Located in the city of Montego Bay, the airport serves as a major gateway to western Jamaica, offering a range of international and domestic flights to destinations around the world. It’s also one of the Caribbean’s main hubs for air travel.
The airfield that would eventually become Montego Bay Sangster Airport was constructed in 1939 by the British Royal Air Force and served as a military base for most of World War II. After the war ended, it was converted into an international airport for commercial passengers in 1974 and has since seen considerable renovation and expansion.
The airport consists of two terminal buildings, both located near each other on either side of a runway that stretches 4500 feet long. The North Terminal is used primarily for international arrivals and departures, while the South Terminal handles regional traffic from within Jamaica. Both terminals are equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioning, comfortable seating areas, ATMs, restaurants and shops.
Montego Bay Sangster Airport is also home to many airlines including Air Canada Express, JetBlue Airways, Copa Airlines and Delta Air Lines. In addition to regular scheduled passenger services throughout the Caribbean region, there are also charter flights operating from here to other points throughout Latin America, Europe and beyond.
The airport boasts award-winning customer service and is often rated as one of the best airports in its home country by professionals who evaluate their experiences when visiting or travelling through them. It was also voted “Best Airport in Jamaica” by Skytrax from 2014 to 2016 and again in 2018/2019 making it one of only four airports in all of North America to receive this prestigious award twice in a row during this time period.
On top of being an efficient gateway for travellers going abroad or returning home to Jamaica; Montego Bay Sangster Airport is also renowned for its duty free shopping paradise where customers can purchase alcoholic beverages, tobacco products and designer goods at remarkable discounts; all without having to leave the confines of the terminal building itself! Furthermore if you decide you want to go out into town after collecting your baggage; courtesy buses depart regularly from just outside both terminals taking passengers directly into Montego Bay’s city centre where they can explore all that this vibrant tourist destination has to offer at their leisure.
In conclusion; whether you’re planning a holiday escape or just passing through on business; Montego Bay Sangster International Airport is an ideal starting point due to its combination of world-class facilities backed up with friendly customer service combined with easy access into town – making it an attractive option for people coming from both near and far away!
