London Southend Airport is the primary international airport that serves the metropolitan area of London and its environs. Currently operated by Stobart Air, the airport is located some 48 km east of central London in Essex county, England. It was formerly known as Southend Municipal Airport, a name it carried for most of its sixty-five years of operation since being opened in 1935. Since then, London Southend Airport has grown to become one of the busiest airports in the United Kingdom, handling over four million passengers annually.

The airport enjoys a great deal of convenience due to its close proximity to London’s major business and financial districts. It also offers quick access to other destinations throughout Britain, Europe and beyond thanks to its extensive network of scheduled airlines operating from the terminal. These include Ryanair, Flybe, KLM and bmi Regional amongst many others.

The passenger experience at London Southend Airport is made all the more enjoyable due to a range of quality amenities on offer such as free Wi-Fi internet access throughout the terminal building, ample seating areas for rest or relaxation and an executive lounge facility for those looking for exclusive services during their travels. Passengers can also enjoy shopping opportunities with stores including WHSmiths and Hugo Boss located on site. In addition there is an extensive array of food outlets ranging from fast food outlets like Nando’s and Burger King to high-end restaurants such as The Globe Brasserie & Bar offering traditional British cuisine with a modern twist.

In recent years the airport has become increasingly popular amongst travellers due to its convenient location along with its efficient service delivery combined with competitive fares offered by some airlines operating out of it. This has resulted in increased numbers passing through each year which have seen passenger numbers steadily rise over time. As part of ongoing initiatives designed to meet customer needs and expectations, new developments have recently been completed at London Southend Airport including a multi-level car park featuring over 800 parking spaces designed for ease of use and added security measures alongside enhanced baggage reclaim facilities offering additional storage space all aimed at improving the overall traveller experience at this busy corporate hub in the heart of England’s capital city.

Overall, London Southend Airport presents itself as an easy option when travelling from or visiting London given its strategic location just outside central London yet still within touching distance enabling passengers short travel times during their visit either way – negating much stress associated with travelling via other larger international airports further away from this bustling metropolis. With ever updated features that keep up with modern day traveller needs coupled with top level service delivery standards it’s no wonder why this airport remains popular choice amongst many when travelling into or out from England’s capital city today!

London Southend Airport Reviews

★★★★★
Excellent airport. No queues, clean and well organised. The extended departure lounge is a vast improvement. The airport provided a pleasant, stress free airport experience. The Stobart Group have created an excellent regional airport which I hope to use many times again in the future.

★★★★☆
Quick connection from London Liverpool Street. The terminal is convenient and clean. Security much quicker and friendlier than at e.g. Stansted. WiFi worked well, but unfortunately not everywhere in the terminal.
- Erwin

★★★★★
So quick and easy to get to and getting through check in and customs was incredibly quick and easy. The facilities were great for such a small airport. Due to the speedy check in and security, we had longer than usual to shop and spend money in the lounge>
- Travis Martinson

★★★★☆
I didn't expect anything from this small airport, but wow, what a nice airport! nice service and nice view on the airplanes! I didn't had a the right boardingpass so I asked the lady at the FlyBe servicedesk to print a new one for me, no problem and my suitcase was a littlebit too big and also that was no problem at all :)
- Willem Nijhoff

★★★★★
Excellent airport. Fast and efficient with short queues at security. The new bar airside looks great and is a very useful addition to the facilities. A far more pleasant experience than travelling through Stansted.

★★★★☆
A good small airport, sadly with security staff who are usually unhelpful and rule-bound. Oh well. FlyBe has a Sunday flight leaving at 07:45 - and sadly there are no trains leaving London which arrive in time. Not very well thought out.
- Peter Blair

★★★☆☆
Travel to airport is well thought and fast via Liverpool Street station. Wi-fi is terrible, slow and unreliable, there was only 1 counter open for check-in, so wait was quite longer than usual. Other than that, pretty little airport, would recommend anyway!
- Matija Logar

★★★☆☆
No trains if you have to arrive for a 6.30 AM departure. Overall quite like the airport as it is my nearest airport its compact size. My family are regular passengers who use this airport a lot. I arrived two hours before before the departure as my flight was the first departure of the day but both the check in desks and the and security were not open. The member staff at security checking boarding passes was friendly. Please note newspapers don´t arrive at the branch of WH Smith in time if you have 6.30 AM departure. Only the restaurant was open once I had cleared security a little while latter the three other shops opened. Boarding was reasonably prompt.

★★★★☆
Long queue to clear Customs on arrival as only two desks were being used and another flight arrived not long before my flight arrived. All told it took over twenty minutes to clear security. I have reservations over ability to cope if there is an increase in passenger numbers. Convenient for getting train for passengers wishing to travel to London.

★★★★☆
Better staffed at Customs desks on this occasion went through quickly but then it was passengers on the same flight as myself.
