Also known as Dubai World Central, DWC offers four runways with the ability to handle A380 superjumbo aircraft operating 24 hours a day. Simultaneous landing capabilities keep this airport moving, and three terminals and numerous concourses help it run efficiently. It will eventually link to its sister airport, Dubai International Airport, via a high-speed rail system.
DWC opened its doors in 2010 with one runway and only served freight flights. Within a year, it was able to handle small airlines with 60 passengers or less on board. From there, it opened to more carriers and saw 102,000 passengers come and go in 2014.
The airport is still in the process of building its complex to handle between 160 million and 260 million passengers through its doors annually. Most of the airport is dedicated to cargo at the moment and only a small amount of airlines like Emirates and FlyDubai fly passengers in and out. The goal is to see more passenger flights than freight flights by 2027.
Traveling to and from the airport is convenient, with taxi, bus, and metro services available, as well as car rentals. Car parking is available for short- and long-term stay.
