This airport has one 2,665 grooved asphalt runway that saw 8.8 million passengers and 86,226 aircraft movements in 2019. That makes it Scotland’s second-busiest airport. Over 15 airlines use Glasgow Airport. Many of the flights are seasonal to and from destinations like Barcelona, Halifax and Naples.
GLA began in 1932, and the RAF used it to house its Auxiliary Air Force. It was home to a torpedo training unit in 1940 and was a naval base in 1943. The navy left in 1963, but by this time, Glasgow realized it needed an airport for civilian use. In the 1990s, GLA was the first U.K. airport to screen all of the baggage that went through the doors due to the Lockerbie bombing. The RAF continues to use this airport as a base.
Short- and long-term parking is available, as well as valet parking. One lot is closest to the terminal, and the others are either a short walk or serviced by shuttle buses. Ground transportation includes buses, trains and taxis. There is bicycle parking at the lots.
