It has one 2,011-meter asphalt runway that saw over 8.9 million passengers in 2019 from 69,434 aircraft movements. It services over 10 airlines with most of those being seasonal flights to and from destinations like Grenoble and Marrakesh, as well as Melbourne, Florida in the United States.

BRS began when a group of businessmen wanted to start an airplane club in 1927, so they developed farmland into the third civilian airport in the United Kingdom. It opened its doors in 1957 and serviced 33,000 passengers during its first year. The 1960s saw a new control tower and a longer runway installed. A new terminal was added in the 1990s. There are no jetbridges, so passengers are either bused or walk to their plane.

There is ample parking for both short- and long-term parking. Ground transportation includes rail, taxis, buses and shuttles, as well as car rentals.
