It serves eight airlines with five of those airports using the airport seasonally. 4.8 million passengers and 77,067 aircraft movements came through East Midlands Airport in 2017. It is a major cargo hub for Europe due to its location and the rail port north of the airport.

EMA was opened by RAF in 1943 during WWII, and in 1964, the airport was purchased by the area governments for civilian use. It was not until the 2000s that holiday flights from places like Orlando, Florida, the Dominican Republic and more brought traffic to the airport, prompted the need for a remodel of the terminal.

Parking is available for short- and long-term stays, all within a short walk. JetParks offer less expensive parking, but they require a shuttle transfer to the airport. Ground transportation includes taxis, trains, coaches and rental cars.

East Midlands Airport Reviews

★★☆☆☆
Bad airport. You dont have seperate lines to put baggage on to the conveyor belt. Also the baggage bags came back very destroyred. Mine was missing a wheel. Also the baggage claim is very slow. 20 mins of waiting for the first bag to come. The food is ok and wifi is pretty bad.
- Nejc Prašnikar

★★★★☆
Great little airport. Easy to drive to and even though it was busy still room to sit. Some nice places to get a bite to each and although lots of budget flights leave from here there has never seemed to be the noisy drunken people you often find waiting for flights. If you have the choice to fly from here or Birmingham choose here.

★★★★☆
First time for many years I've flown from EMA and have to say it has improved. Facilities are good for a regional airport and the presence of a smoking area off the departure lounge shows consideration (whatever your thoughts regarding the habit) for a group of travellers that are often ostracised and forgotten. A pleasant and quick experience both in and out.

★★★★★
Skylink service to and from EMA to Loghborough, Leicester, Nottingham or Derby was brilliant, quick and easy check in, security was fast and boarding was great! Altogether, a great experience with plenty of destinations, and would definitely use EMA again!
- Owen Gunn

★☆☆☆☆
Yet again extensive delays at baggage claim. 40 minutes wait for the bags, while later flights were getting their baggage first. Always a shambles at EMA, never gets any better.

★★★☆☆
Decent airport for its size. Security was very fast in the early morning however I may have arrived before the morning rush. Facilities are limited but there are all of the usual shops. WH Smith, Burger King etc. Sitting space is also limited and in the morning rush hours the terminal is quite packed. Overall however decent.
- Edward

★★★☆☆
In the summer, allow plenty of time to get through the security. It took us 45 mins. The food outlets are good upstairs, but there appeared to be confusion as to the departure gates.
- Alex Jaycock

★★★☆☆
Very unlucky location of car rental facilities, long to walk and without any rain protection. Could be much better.
- Heinz

★★★★★
Brilliant airport especially when traveling from Ireland because you don't have to go through border control. The WIFI is great but at busy times baggage claim can be busy and you have to wait
- Angus

★☆☆☆☆
It took 30 minutes to get through immigration at midnight. Families with tired young children having to wait. Terrible
