This airport has one 2,893-meter asphalt runway and one terminal. It serves eight airlines with five of those airports using the airport seasonally. 4.8 million passengers and 77,067 aircraft movements came through East Midlands Airport in 2017. It is a major cargo hub for Europe due to its location and the rail port north of the airport.
EMA was opened by RAF in 1943 during WWII, and in 1964, the airport was purchased by the area governments for civilian use.
