Last year, Malta experienced a robust 83% rebound in tourism volumes when compared to pre-pandemic levels. This increase was propelled by Polish, Austrian, Italian and French markets that all surpassed numbers from 2019 – the highest number of tourists ever visiting Malta.
Satisfied with this result Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo noted these figures must be viewed within the full context of Covid restrictions which were imposed from January until April 2022. With total earnings estimated at €2 billion for last year alone it is clear that Maltese Tourism stands strong against any challenge posed bringing confidence to create a sustainable industry going forward.
“Sustainability is a necessity not an option. We need to understand this principle more than ever. This means that we have tourists that visit our country over a whole year which directly leaves a positive environmental impact especially with the reduction in emissions in the touristic activity,”
