WHSmith opens its first Italian store at Torino Airport

ITALY. WHSmith has opened its first store in Italy in the airside lounge at Torino Airport.

The store will offer a range of products tailored to the needs of the travelling customer, including Italian and International newspapers, magazines, books, digital products, toys, souvenirs, confectionery, drinks and WHSmith’s own brand travel essentials range.

It opened on 28 July and has been refitted to reflect the premium look of the recently refurbished airside lounge and complements the look and feel of the airport, according to WHSmith.

Torino Airport is located northwest of the city of Turin in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy. It served four million passengers in 2016 and is forecasting positive growth in passenger numbers.

“Securing the contract for the store in Torino Airport is a key contract win and is a superb ‘first’ for our newly-formed Italian business,” said WHSmith International Chairman Louis de Bourgoing. “We are excited by the opportunity to form an ongoing relationship with Torino Airport and we are committed to ensuring our store provides a truly compelling offer to all customers at the airport.”

Torino Airport CEO Roberto Barbieri commented:

“We are delighted to welcome WHSmith to our airport, which will enhance the retail offer for all our customers. The WHSmith store opening further enlarges the commercial offer of Torino Airport, which in the last years has been completely redeveloped and diversified and is still in constant expansion. Today the airport has 34 shops, cafés and restaurants, with a +70% growth in three years.”
