Southampton Airport is a major international airport in Hampshire, England. It serves the popular holiday destinations of Bournemouth, the New Forest and Isle of Wight and provides flights to numerous cities across Europe. The airport began operations in 1936 as Southampton Municipal Airport and was later renamed Southampton International Airport in 1986. Today, it is a hub for airlines such as Flybe, Eastern Airways and Loganair and offers more than 40 destinations. In addition to scheduled flights, the airport also has facilities for general aviation, charter services and cargo flights.
The terminal building offers passengers all modern amenities such as currency exchange services, shopping outlets, food outlets, free Wi-Fi access and many other facilities. It has two departure lounges – North Lounge and South Lounge – which provide seating areas with charging sockets for mobile devices as well as TV screens showing flight information. The airport also features an observation deck that offers visitors a panoramic view of runway activity and plane landings/takeoffs. Passengers can choose from car rental options including Hertz, Europcar and Avis or make use of public transport options such as trains running between Southampton Central Station and Eastleigh Station or buses travelling between Eastleigh Station and the airport terminal building.
