A run(a)way success: Budapest Airport supports two charities through annual race

HUNGARY. The fifth Budapest Airport Runway Run attracted over 1,000 participants and raised a record €39,500 in support of two charities.

The event was organised in September by Budapest Airport in association with news and analysis website www. anna.aero. It invited employees from airlines, airports and aviation enterprises to take part in a 10km runway run. Funds raised during the event supported the airport’s chosen charity, Hungary’s Suhanj! Foundation, and UK bone marrow transplant association, Anthony Nolan.

Over the past three years Budapest Airport has donated close to €50,000 to the Suhanj! Foundation.

The Runway Run was organised and sponsored by Airbus and Qatar Airways, with the support of SSP Group, Gebr. Heinemann, SITA, KPMG, Z&Z, Travelport, Market, Primavera and Nickelodeon.

Those taking part ran alongside participants from the Suhanj! Foundation, an inspiring display of the charity’s aim to share the joys of sports with those living with disabilities.

The Suhanj! Foundation was established in 2010. It opened Hungary’s first integrative gym in July. The facility is open to people of varying abilities and promotes the employment of people who may be physically challenged or suffer from a health condition.

Anthony Nolan works in the areas of leukaemia and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. It manages and recruits donors to the Anthony Nolan Register, part of an aligned registry which includes the Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry and the National Blood Service’s British Bone Marrow Registry.

And the race is on: Budapest Airport’s Runway Run has become an annual fixture

Budapest Airport CCO Kam Jandu said: “Each year we have seen our event bring together the air transport community in such a unique way in Europe. We’re extremely proud that our fundraising, alongside the generosity of our sponsors, helps us to support the Suhanj! Foundation and the fantastic work the association does to include disabled people in every aspect of sport.”
