New Self Bag Drop at Hamburg Airport

Hamburg Airport has introduced a fully automated baggage drop facility with the aim of speeding-up the passengers’ journey through the terminal.

Ten “self bag drop” kiosks, including four for fully automated check-in were declared operational in Hamburg’s Terminal 1 last November, but they were officially unveiled on January 23.

The kiosks, which have the technical equipment to allow them to serve all airlines, were developed and manufactured by Materna in Dortmund.  Currently, the new bag drops are being used by Air France, KLM and easyJet.  Other airlines will be added over time.

Johannes Scharnberg, Hamburg Airport’s Director of Aviation commented: “Already after just a short period of operation, we can see that our passengers are not having any problems with the new equipment.  And we are very happy with the system’s stability. Many of our passengers have already discovered the benefits of the kiosks for themselves and given us very positive feedback.”
