LATVIA. Today’s image features welcome news of store investment at Riga International Airport, where travel retailer ATÜ Duty Free has opened Roots of Latvia, dedicated to destination goods ranging from food to local craft items. It’s a positive statement of faith in recovery from the retailer – a joint venture between TAV Airports and Gebr Heinemann – at a difficult time.
Airport Commercial Director Arturs Saveljevs said in a LinkedIn post: “Today a new local product store, Roots of Latvia, was opened offering lots of local gourmet and craft items. Many thanks to Tamer Cigeroglu and the whole ATÜ Duty Free team for the continuous investments in Riga Airport despite the current circumstances.”
Although passenger traffic fell by -91% year-on-year in Q1, Riga Airport management has expressed optimism about recovery later this year. Lead airline partner airBaltic has announced eight new routes from Riga – including to Valencia, Pisa and Kos – as it plans to rebuild its network from July. Ryanair is to open a new base in Riga with 16 routes from Winter 2021.
