It has one 3,406-meter asphalt runway that served 5.6 million travelers and 47,223 aircraft movements in 2019. The primary travel to and from this airport is seasonal from areas like Dublin, Vienna and Frankfurt. FUE opened in 1969, and the first flight into the airport was a Fokker F27f from the Gran Canaria airport. By the early 1970s, the airport saw traffic increase, which prompted upgrades, updates and improvements to the existing terminal to accommodate the passenger counts. In the 1990s, a new terminal, an apron and a new taxiway were all constructed. In addition, there was a power plant built near the airport. All of the upgrades allowed the airport to handle 3,100 travelers an hour.

Parking is plentiful; a new car park was part of the 1990s renovations, so there are spaces for long- and short-term parking. Ground transportation includes buses and taxis.
