It has one 3,406-meter asphalt runway that served 5.6 million travelers and 47,223 aircraft movements in 2019. FUE opened in 1969, and the first flight into the airport was a Fokker F27f from the Gran Canaria airport. In the 1990s, a new terminal, an apron and a new taxiway were all constructed. In addition, there was a power plant built near the airport. All of the upgrades allowed the airport to handle 3,100 travelers an hour.
Parking is plentiful; a new car park was part of the 1990s renovations, so there are spaces for long- and short-term parking. Ground transportation includes buses and taxis.
