AUSTRALIA. A shopping centre featuring 120 speciality stores is to open next year within the Perth Airport estate.
Perth Airport is funding the AU$150 million (US$119.5 million) development project together with Vicinity Centres in a joint venture.
The Direct Factory Outlet (DFO) will offer a premium outlet experience and attract both tourists and locals, according to the airport. DFO Perth will be Western Australia’s first, it said, and will offer 24,000sq m of gross lettable space. It will be located on a nine hectare site within the Perth Airport estate “with strong arterial access”.
Construction has begun and the facility is due to open next year. The airport said it will feature international designers, premium apparel, mainstream fashion, childrenswear, lifestyle and home wares, and sports and adventure on one level.
It will also include a range of contemporary food & beverage options, as well as playground facilities and parking for more than 1,500 cars.
“The new DFO will add to the vibrancy of our city and our tourism offering to attract visitors to Perth and Western Australia,” said Perth Airport Chief Executive Officer Kevin Brown. He noted that the development would create an estimated 900 direct jobs, including 250 jobs throughout construction and 650 in ongoing retail and hospitality roles.
