Turin Airport, officially known as Turin-Caselle Airport, is an international airport located in Caselle Torinese, a northern suburb of Turin, Italy. It is the second busiest airport in the country after Rome’s Fiumicino International Airport. The airport serves both domestic and international flights to destinations within Europe and beyond.

The first flight from Turin was made by designer Guglielmo Marconi in 1909, but it wasn’t until 1913 that the aerodrome was opened for regular operations. During World War II, the facility was heavily damaged by bombing raids and it wasn’t until 1948 that a new terminal building was constructed to replace it. Since then, the airport has continually expanded its operations and infrastructure to accommodate increasing passenger numbers. In 1996 a new runway was built to handle long-haul traffic, while in 2007 a brand new passenger terminal opened its doors for business travelers and tourists alike. In recent years construction of additional hangers have taken place allowing aircrafts larger than the Airbus A320 to land at the airport with ease.

Today Turin Airport features two runways with one being dedicated exclusively for private jets, six passenger terminals including three docks for international flights, one cargo terminal and two hangars for freight operators with capacity sufficient enough to cater up to twenty thousand passengers per hour during peak times. There are numerous amenities available such as banking services, cafés and restaurants, duty-free shopping areas as well as car rental companies like Hertz and Avis onsite.

In 2014, more than 6 million passengers used Turin Airport making it one of the busiest airports in all of Italy by passenger numbers: even surpassing Milan’s Malpensa International Airport which handled an impressive 5 million passengers that same year.
