Oakland International Airport (OAK) is an international airport located in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. The history of Oakland Airport dates back to 1927 when it was founded by local business leaders and named Oak Knoll Field. In 1942, the US Army purchased the land for military use during World War II and renamed it Fairfield-Suisun Army Airfield. After the war, it was returned to civilian control but remained inactive until 1954 when Alameda County purchased the land and established Oakland International Airport.
