Deze luchthaven heeft één asfaltbaan van 2.800 meter die 33.185 vliegtuigbewegingen per jaar kan verwerken. In 2020 gingen ruim 2 miljoen passagiers door de deuren, wat minder was dan de normale 8 miljoen passagiers die het normaal gesproken ziet. Het is een vakantiebestemming met seizoensgebonden routes die het verbinden met de rest van Europa.
IBZ was eerst een militaire luchthaven toen de Spaanse Burgeroorlog uitbrak, en het bleef een noodstop voordat het in 1951 werd gesloten. Dankzij het toerisme moest de luchthaven in 1958 worden heropend omdat steeds meer mensen ervoor kozen om plaatsen als Barcelona en Madrid te bezoeken. De luchthaven werd een aantal keren uitgebreid met nieuwe start- en landingsbanen en verlengde platforms om meer vliegtuigen te kunnen ontvangen. De terminal werd bijgewerkt en gemoderniseerd voor de reizigers van vandaag.
Er zijn parkeerplaatsen op korte en lange termijn voor auto’s, bussen en voertuigen met beperkte mobiliteit. Parkeren wordt aanbevolen omdat de luchthaven veel toeristen trekt. Het grondvervoer omvat taxi’s en bussen, evenals autoverhuur.
