It has four asphalt runways and six terminals with 124 gates. Over 31.7 million passengers move through the gates annually. 2019 saw 33 million passengers for a record year. There are 22 airlines with 500 departures daily moving through the airport.
PHL started in 1925 as a training field for the Pennsylvania National Guard, and Charles Lindbergh designated it as an airport in 1927. In 1940, a terminal was built, and the National Weather Service put up a weather station. It was used during WWII as a training airfield, and it was home to a flight school. After the war, PHL offered non-stop flights to Europe.
Parking is available long- and short-term, as well as bicycle access and charging stations for hybrid and all-electric cars. There are some height restrictions in the parking garages. Off-premise parking is also available. Getting to and from the airport is easy through public transportation, rental cars, taxis and limousines.
