Chiang Mai International Airport is the major airport servicing the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai. The airport operates 24 hours a day, accommodating both domestic and international flights. It is currently the fifth busiest airport in Thailand, after Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports, Phuket International Airport and Hat Yai International Airport.
The airport has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 which serve both domestic and international passengers. Terminal 1 handles all arrivals while Terminal 2 is used for all departures. The total passenger throughput at the airport was over 11 million in 2017. It primarily serves airlines such as Thai AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, Nok Air, Thai Smile Airways, VietJet Air and FlyDubai that connect it to destinations around Asia including Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong etc., as well as domestic destinations such as Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi.
The airport offers amenities such as duty-free shopping outlets in both terminals selling luxury items from watches to cosmetics to local handicrafts; food courts offering a wide range of cuisines from Thai street food to western fast food options; bank branches for currency exchange services; cafes offering specialty coffees and pastries; internet lounges with computer workstations for work or leisure activities; dedicated children’s play areas with interactive games; massage chairs for relaxing after a long flight; car rental counters providing vehicles from luxury sedans to economy cars; taxi stands located in front of both terminals with meter taxis available at any time of day or night.
