INTERNATIONAL. Singapore Changi Airport has been named as the World’s Best Airport by air travellers for the sixth consecutive year at the 2018 Skytrax World Airport Awards.
Hong Kong International Airport was again considered to have the best dining offer while London Heathrow once more received the accolade for best shopping. Full results are shown below.
The awards were held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Stockholm, Sweden on 21 March 2018.
It is the first time in the history of the awards that an airport has won the World’s Best Airport title for six consecutive years. Changi Airport Group Chief Executive Officer Lee Seow Hiang said: “We are extremely honoured. It is a significant achievement for Changi Airport and spurs us to continue to deliver the best passenger experience for all who travel through Changi Airport.
“Last year, we successfully opened Terminal 4, and upgraded parts of Terminal 1. We are most grateful to the 50,000-strong airport community for their steadfast support through the years and as we continue to upgrade the airport’s infrastructure. Their unwavering commitment and passion for service excellence are what underpins Changi Airport’s success.
“As we anticipate the opening of Jewel Changi Airport next year, we will continue to work closely with our partners to deliver the best of experiences to our passengers. We thank our passengers and partners alike for their continued support and confidence in us.”
Changi Airport was also the repeat winner of the award for Best Airport Leisure Amenities.
In addition to its success in the World’s Best Airport Shopping category, Heathrow was also named Best Airport in Western Europe for the fourth year running. Heathrow’s Terminal 2 was named ‘World’s Best Airport Terminal’ for the first time, with Terminal 5 in fourth.
Heathrow Chief Commercial Officer Ross Baker said: “To have two of our terminals be voted amongst the world’s top five is testament to the hard work our team has done to transform Heathrow for the better.
“We are tremendously pleased our passengers are not only voting for us through these awards – but also with their feet – as we saw with this year’s record breaking numbers. We will continue to invest in Heathrow to give passengers an enjoyable, reliable and affordable journey every time they travel through the airport.”
Budapest International Airport celebrated success in the Best Airport in Eastern Europe category for the fifth consecutive year. CEO Jost Lammers stated: “Winning the Skytrax Award five years in a row is immense encouragement to our airport community, every one of whom is committed to delivering excellent services and a memorable experience to all travellers.
“It is particularly meaningful after a year which saw us welcome nearly two million additional passengers than in 2016. Not only are we holding our place among the fastest growing major airports in Europe, but we’re also being recognised for our continued promise to provide the best in all the elements which guarantee customer satisfaction.”
Helsinki Airport was voted the Best Airport in Northern Europe. Finavia’s Ville Haapasaari, Helsinki Airport Director, said: “It is an honour to receive this award by passengers all around the world. It is the best way to verify that our hard work towards enhancing customer experience in Helsinki Airport is paying off. At the same time, I want to warmly thank our Finavia personnel and all of our partners here in Helsinki Airport; without their contribution, this result could not have been possible.
