Richard Paterson celebrates 50 years ahead of once-in-a-lifetime whisky release

Richard Paterson today celebrates a 50-year career with Whyte and Mackay, having joined the Glasgow whisky makers on 14th September 1970.  Over the last five decades, Richard has produced landmark whiskies that have established his reputation as one of the greatest whisky makers of his generation.

Richard has chosen this moment after 50 years to step back from some of his day to day involvement across the wider Whyte and Mackay portfolio to focus on The Dalmore and to have more time to pursue his other personal interests.

Richard will continue to produce exceptional whiskies from The Dalmore Single Malt Distillery. The next of these to be released is a once-in-a-lifetime collection of six whiskies called “The Decades of The Dalmore” which will be unveiled in 2021.  This is part of an ongoing series of releases of whiskies which have been nurtured by Richard over many years.

Whyte & Mackay CEO, Bryan Donaghey, said

‘To work for one company for 50 years is a fantastic achievement that few will repeat.  Through all those years Richard has made an outstanding contribution to the continued success of Whyte & Mackay, and especially The Dalmore.  His energy and passion for what he does is remarkable and an inspiration to all of us.  My thanks and congratulations to Richard on this incredible achievement.’

Richard Paterson, Master Distiller, said

‘I have been fortunate to have enjoyed each and every one of my 50 wonderful years.  I have had the opportunity to work with many incredible people down through the years, and incredible whiskies too of course.  I am truly proud of what we have achieved together as Whyte and Mackay.  For myself, I have the great honour to care for the truly extraordinary whisky we create at The Dalmore.  I look forward to sharing some very special releases of The Dalmore in 2021’.

The Dalmore have previously announced a very rare expression, one bottle of The Dalmore 60 Year Old. This unique whisky was created by Richard Paterson as a tribute to the visionary whisky makers that came before him. The Dalmore 60 Year Old, will be sold at auction at Harrods of London in December.
