New communications director for Flybe

Flybe has announced the appointment of Simon McNamara as its new director of communications reporting direct to chief executive, Christine Ourmieres-Widener.

He will be the strategic lead for Flybe’s public affairs’ activities and his role will include promoting Flybe’s purpose, vision and strategy, both internally and externally to the investment community, media and politicians.

McNamara will join Flybe at its Exeter headquarters later in the year having completed a five-year term as director general of the European Regions Airline Association.

He was here responsible for the delivery and implementation of ERA’s work in the field of policy, events and communications.

Ourmieres-Widener said: “I am so pleased that Simon will be joining us later in the year to take up the key position as director of communications.

“He comes to us with a wealth of proven and very relevant knowledge and experience.

“As a highly motivated communications professional possessing a strong track record of delivery, he has established a solid reputation within the European regional aviation sector.”

McNamara has worked in the aviation industry for over 20 years and is a graduate of City University, London, in aeronautical engineering.

He commented: “I am thrilled to be joining Flybe and to be able to bring my experience to the company.

“I have a passion for regional aviation and am very excited to be able to work with the team to further develop, position and communicate Flybe as Europe’s leading regional airline.”
