Brussels Airport, located in Zaventem, Belgium, is one of the busiest and largest airports in Europe. The airport was originally built on the grounds of a former military airfield between 1933 and 1935, under the name Melsbroek Airport. It was later renamed Brussels Airport in 1954 following a merger with two other local airfields, Evere Air Base and Haren-Machelen Airport. Since then it has undergone several extensive renovations that have increased its capacity from 7 million passengers per year to 30 million passengers per year. Recent renovations also included new terminals, runways, check-in desks, security facilities and baggage claim areas.
Brussels Airport is served by an extensive public transportation network including buses, trains, trams and taxis that provide connections from the airport to all parts of Brussels and other nearby cities. Passengers can also make use of the airport’s car rental services for trips outside of city limits. In addition to its regular services, Brussels International Airport offers several services to assist passengers with special needs such as disabled access ramps and wheelchairs.
