Tribhuvan International Airport is the only international airport in Nepal and is located in Kathmandu. It was named after late King Tribhuvan of Nepal. The first commercial flight at TIA took off on July 1, 1950, and since then it has been connected to over 20 cities around the world. It is the hub for Nepal Airlines Corporation and many other domestic airlines like Yeti Airlines, Buddha Air, Sita Air, and Simrik Airlines.

TIA provides services for both passengers as well as cargo flights. In 2010, it handled more than 3 million passengers with a total of 31,000 aircraft movements which included more than 8,000 international arrivals/departures. It consists of an integrated terminal building with three floors that house both domestic and international flights. The airport also has two cargo terminals where goods from all over the world are imported into Nepal. There are also plenty of ground transportation options such as taxis, rental cars and shuttles available for those who wish to travel to their desired destination within the city or outside.

Tribhuvan International Airport has undergone some major renovations in recent years including expansion of its main runway and improving navigational aids that offer better visibility during rainy or foggy weather conditions. Additionally, they have installed state-of-the-art baggage handling systems providing advanced conveyor belts to ensure luggage tracking accuracy while increasing customer satisfaction. In November 2018, TIA opened a new terminal building called Gautam Buddha International Terminal which was built to improve the capacity of air traffic at this airport by almost 60%. This new terminal building is equipped with modern infrastructure that includes 18 check-in counters along with 12 immigration counters making passenger processing easier and quicker compared to before.

Apart from serving travelers from all over the world, TIA also plays an important role in supporting relief efforts during natural disasters that occur in Nepal such as earthquakes and flooding. With its strategic location in Kathmandu Valley allowing easy access for helicopters to drop supplies in remote areas makes this airport a vital asset for such relief operations hence ensuring continued transport of lifesaving materials even when roads may be blocked by landslides or avalanches due to extreme weather conditions experienced in this region from time to time .
