Tehran Imam Khomeini Airport Reviews

★★★☆☆
Smooth Airport . Wifi Connection Is Kinda Poor And Only Accessible to Iranian Citizens . WCs are not Clean Enough Small Parking And Low Capacity For All Passenger Cars . Totally I Love this Airport And I Enjoy My Time When Im There
- Mehrad Watson

★☆☆☆☆
Although the airport is open for about 10 years only, it looks like 50 years old. Maintenance is very poor and I do not believe that e.g. the windows have been cleaned just once since the opening. The pre-security screening is absolutely inefficeint and immigration is an absolute nighmare for foreigners. Waiting times of 1.5 hours are not unusual.
- HUK

★★☆☆☆
small parking , far from the city , not clean W Cs , no metro , no currencies , no WiFi , ... , kind people , small duty free shop but nice stuff, angry security , in compare with dubai airport : you have to pay money to take visa!!!
- Reza Rabie

★★★☆☆
Coming through the airport administration (including visa-on-arrival procedure) took me almost two hours. Everything worked correctly, there were no issues, it just was slow. Terminal facilities are existing, but rather basic. Be warned: there is not other option of getting to the city than taxi (fixed price of about $25-$35, depending on the type of car). This is quite a shame, at least a bus to the nearest metro station would really help a lot.
- Kamil

★★☆☆☆
Obtaining a Visa on arrival proved a 1 hr 45 minute frustrating challenge with total confusion reigning on what seems to be a basically manual process, this despite the fact I was the first one at the counter and had excellent business sponsor. You MUST have Euros, and cannot change at the airport and no ATM, so be prepared,
- Sam Rad

★★★☆☆
The only possibility to get to IKA airport is by taxi, what a shame! They are overpriced for the local standards and not really willing to bargain (as usual for taxis elsewhere in the country). Several security checks (all quite leisure), and long long queues for everything. The overall process at the airport is fairly painless, but really, really slow. It is advisable to be there 3-4 hours before departure. WiFi not present, food services limited, retails only accepting rials (wtf is that?).
- Kamil

★★☆☆☆
The airport needs in total an overhaul. One can see the age and substandard in many spots. Sanitary rooms are a catastrophe. If there were bushes available that would be a much better solution. WiFi is as good as non-existent. Food offer is not numerous but at least the quality is good. One of best freshest burgers I had ever. Lounges are not existing. Immigration/customs was half-way efficient, but no online/digital facilities, self-printed boarding pass not accepted, thus queuing at the counter a must. Reminiscence from past centuries. All in all pretty poor airport needing urgent revamp to international standards.
- Dean

★☆☆☆☆
Horrible airport representing an oppresive state which doesn't care for things like customer satisfaction. Flying abroad or into the country is politics and official procedures, not travel. You have to endure it if you want to discover this exciting country.
- zelev

★★☆☆☆
Though this is my home city airport and I like it as I have many memories, but it seriously lacks some amnesties. Getting to airport is expensive as there are no other options beside taxi, WiFi is exhausting, Food options are expensive but very good quality, Immigration/customs are very slow and you'll be surprised if there is no cue.

In the future, airport subway trains will link up IKA to Tehran urban metro system, Line 1. VIP taxi cost 750,000 Iranian Rial to the city (for us, to Mehrabad Airport). Basic facilities like money exchange, some food joints, left luggage centre and airline ticket sales are available. Recommend to change as much money at IKA as it is hard to find money exchange in Tehran, if you do not have local friends. The airport money exchange accepts most european currency, USD, CNY, AUD and even MYR. Wifi is available under asiatech, free for 1 hour / 100MB, whichever applies first. You can get simcard there but do take note some shops may be closed during prayer time. You may want to take Tehran metro Line 1 termius station to Kahrizak and take a cab to the airport. Train tickets are really cheap (USD $0.20) while from Kahrizak, taxi costs 400,000 Iranian Rial. Take the yellow coloured taxi as the green taxis may quote you a higher price than the market.
