Soekarno-Hatta Airport, commonly referred to as CGK (which stands for its IATA code) is Indonesia’s main international airport and the biggest in Southeast Asia by passenger volume. It’s named after the nation’s founding father and first president, Soekarno, and his protégé, Mohammad Hatta. The monstrous structure, located about 15 miles away from Jakarta’s city center, is fed by two separate terminals: Terminal 2 for domestic flights and Terminal 3 for international flights.

Since its inaugural flight in 1985, CGK has grown into an impressive hub of air transportation with a staggering 65 million passengers per annum. The airport was designed to handle up to 33 million passengers but it regularly registers over 50% more traffic than intended. All four runways are longer than 4000 meters each and can accommodate up to 80 aircraft movements per hour.
