“ To Whom It May Concern, I used to love KLM and Schiphol Airport and it always was my first choice when connecting through an European airport. I fly around 20 times a year and during one of my trips on 01/11/16 I made the wrong choice to go for a walk in the city during a 7 hours layover waiting for the flight KL1801 at 20:35 to Munich. I went back to the airport and proceeded to security at 18:55. After 20 minutes of queue I finally got to the boarding pass readers where a waiting time of 40-45 minutes was advised. I queued until 20:05 when there were still around 50 people before me and started to skip the queue but still it took 15 minutes for around 10 people before me to do the baggage check. During the queue I asked three different security officers about what I should have done but they just said to queue and didn't show any comprehension. One of the employees also said that if he knew that it was so messy today, he would have not gone to work. I cleared security at 20:20, time of the gate closure, and started to run to gate D81, almost falling down and going to get an asthma attack to find out that there were still around 50 people to board when I got there at 20:25. The plane, due to depart at 20:35, left the stand at around 20:55 and took off around 15 minutes later, with a delay of around 35 minutes. No delay was shown on the screen or on the app, small thing that would have made me avoid a run through the airport and feeling blood in my lungs while I'm writing this complaint during the flight. It is unacceptable that without skipping queues and running, it would have taken around 2 hours and 15 minutes from the start of the queue for the security to the gate, also considering that the bag drop-off opens (officially) 2 hours before departure. These things would have not happened even in the airport of a less developed country 20 years ago. You should also thank me because if I didn't run and skip the queue you had to unload my luggage and further delay the flight, since it landed 11 minutes later than schedule. I used to be a loyal Skyteam customer, but after this episode I will try to avoid Schiphol Airport, KLM and partners as much as possible. I look forward to hear your comments on this. “ Traveling to the US from AMS is always fun, they trained their 3rd party security personnel doing passenger interviews in a very strange way. You don't get so detailed questions at other airports and some of them seem to be quite stupid, like asking e-mails demonstrating that you really have business meetings in the US. They get very suspicious when some is living in a different country than their passport is from - hey, that happens with a few of us on this planet... So be prepare, smile, and better transfer at eg. FRA, MUC, ZRH, LHR if you don't like stupid questions and stubborn interviews.”
