This airport has one grooved asphalt runway 3,049 meters long, and there were 199,925 airport movements and 28.1 million passengers served in 2019. It has one terminal that has three satellites with 68 gates; 40 of those have jetways. It also has a transit system within the airport to move passengers to gates furthest away from the terminal hub.

STN began in 1943 and during WWII, the RAF and USAAF used the airport as a bomber airfield. After the war, the airport was opened for civilian use in 1949. The U.S. returned in 1954 and extended the runway for possible NATO use, which never happened. Holiday charter flights began in 1966, and over 15 airlines use the airport today, with nine of those offering seasonal flights. Transatlantic flights to the United States started in the 1990s, but these services started and stopped several times due to economics.

Parking is offered for long- and short-term, as well as valet and meet and greet parking. Ground transportation includes buses, coaches, taxis and trains.

Stansted Airport Reviews

★★★☆☆
After placing more than 5 pounds in the parking machine turned out to be broken. Voice behind the help button not helpful at all not offering a refund option(just pointed to use another machine considering it's absolutely normal to just pay one more although not the customer fault).
- Cristian Pascu

★★☆☆☆
The usual crap passport control, with six of the 24 gates being o o u. It took two goes at number 13 before I was sent to another gate (number). That didn't work either, so I was 'let out' by a human instead. The UK Borders woman I tried to complain to was rude and indifferent "Get on a HM government, not me". Also late off the aircraft (10 minutes) due to nobody being there to open the gate for an on time arrival.
- Michael Barstow

★★★★★
The past occasions I've used Stansted has been mid-afternoon or evening flights, where the airport is a lot quieter, however this occasion was a early morning flight, and as expected, was very busy indeed in security, then follows the meander thru duty free to the departures area. Mercifully Weatherspoons was fairly quiet, nice place to enjoy breakfast and while away the time before your boarding gate is announced. My return wasn't so smooth, with everyone ushered to the automatic passport gates military style, and only about 10 out of 30(!!) of them working. We were all frog marched through endless queing lanes before being told which gate to stand at. Thankfully the E-Gates seemed more effective than other E-gates ive had the misfortune to use before.
- Robert Brooks

★☆☆☆☆
Stansted airport is my last choice when travelling to and from London. Gate is information is always late and often incorrect. The airport is always overcrowded and passengers are treated like cattle
- Marcel Ryan

★★★★★
If it wasn't such a mission to get too (the other side of London), I'd love it more. But everything is made effortless, especially as the majority of people traffic are frequent travellers, security is speedy. Plenty of options in Duty Free for shopping and eating.
- Kate Siredzuk

★★★★☆
You can access free wi-fi for 4 hours, there are plugs (UK/USB/European styles) but if you have a transit, you need to go out and check in again and they are very strict with the security.
- Gabriel Brezoiu

★★★★☆
Haven't flown from Stansted for several years now and pleased to see a somewhat marked improvement under the ownership of Manchester Airports. Car parking still involves the bendy busses taking you on their very own magical mystery tour!
- John Carter

★★★★☆
I guess that the 'cattle grids' in Arrivals do serve a purpose, but it makes for quite a walk to get to the retina scan machines!
- John Carter

★☆☆☆☆
If i didn't know that i would fly a plane that day, i will thought that i was in a Shopping mall. The airport was very crowded, deffinetly not gonna fly on this airport again.
- Pavel Novak

★★★★☆
Stasted airport has lots of shops and a huge duty free but the queue at customs offices is too long, I risked to miss the bus to London, and gates from 50 to 59 are situated at about 15 minutes walk from shops area
