Phuket International Airport, located in the south of Thailand on the beautiful island of Phuket, is one of the busiest airports in Southeast Asia. This airport is the gateway to some of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations and serves as a connecting hub for many international flights. Phuket Airport is run by Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT). It has two terminals; domestic and international, with a total capacity of 12 million passengers per year. The airport has direct flight connections to over 28 countries which include Japan, China, Malaysia, Singapore, India and Australia.

The airport boasts an impressive number of amenities to cater to its wide variety of travelers including duty-free shops, restaurants and cafes. There are also several car rental companies available at the airport and a range of transportation services such as shuttle buses and taxis that can take passengers into town or nearby resorts.

A modern terminal building was built in 2006 to accommodate more passengers and airlines allowing for larger aircrafts to land at this ever-expanding airport. Since then there have been continuous improvements made to improve efficiency such as upgraded check-in counters, automated baggage systems and advanced security systems making it one of the most advanced airports in Southeast Asia.

Additional amenities introduced over recent years includes a spa for travelers looking for a little bit of rest before takeoff or after landing; an expansive food court filled with delicious Thai dishes; various art exhibitions throughout the building; children’s play areas located near gates; dedicated smoking areas throughout the terminal; free Wi-Fi access so travelers can stay connected while waiting for their next flight; charging stations for recharging devices; currency exchange services; prayer rooms for those observing religious customs; numerous business facilities; plus much more!

With all these features making up part of this energetic travel hub, it’s easy to see why Phuket International Airport is an ideal destination both for tourists traveling into town or on their way out into the world!

Phuket Airport Reviews

★★☆☆☆
Phuket International Airport is dated and really worn down. Too many passengers pass through these facilities every year, and PIA has capacity for about half these numbers. Immigration has room for a lot of improvements, always seem to be understaffed, unless you got 100 Bath ready to buy the unofficial express service. The luggage claim area is always a mess, too much people blocking the sights for the rest. Transportation to/from PIA is the worst in Thailand with highly overpriced services, a Meter Taxi is 4-6 times the price in BKK for same distances. Almost impossible to find parking for your own or your friends car. Food and drinks are the typical higher airport pricing. Waiting and restrooms; not a place you like to be.

★★★☆☆
Good Points Its on the island so easy to access Friendly Airasia check in staff Short check-in queues No long queues at immigration New terminal opening soon Once air-side it has a smoking room Most Europeans get a free 3 months visa Bad Points Small terminal that can get very busy and warm. Duty free is expensive buy goods in local shops Food on offer is pretty limited and expensive During my time of travel earlier this year, the new terminal was due to open for Russian flights. With this new addition, travelling through Phuket International should be a more positive experience for everyone.
- Andrew

★★★☆☆
Flying from Phuket is fairly painless once you get through security which can be a little sluggish. The departure lounge is fairly open although the lighting despite plenty of windows does feel a bit artificial. There are a lot of building works going on now which looks like massive expansion. Thai ATC will not let flights leave early which is a bit of a drag.
- Kev Stevenson

★★★☆☆
Flight Arrived in the evening, plane was on time, there was quite a queue getting through customs as 3 other flights had arrived from Europe, There was only two immigration desks open and the immigration officers weren't too fussed in being organised so it felt like ages, once cleared the wait for bags took a while also, Then came the gauntlet of the dodgy taxi drivers to get to the mini bus to take me to my hotel.
- Robin Scott

★★★★★
Good for arrival, good scenery. New terminal is under construction. I hope to visit in soon. This airport has many direct flight to connect various routes in Asia, Middle East, Europe, Australia. Some days this airport will be connected with America and Latin America for long route and A380 will be landed here.
- Tee So

★☆☆☆☆
Small airport to accommodate overflowing pax. Compact space for custom and avsec screening. No water fountain facility, forcing you to buy water from shops or on board a/c
- Tien-Jen Schneider

★★★★☆
Mit Business einen persönlichen Begleitservice um schnellstens durch den checkin Bereich und Sicherheitskontrollen zur lounge zu kommen. 1a
- Johannes Schick

★★☆☆☆
Really outdated airport where everything is significantly overpriced. The flight informaiton system broke down while i was waiting so it was very confusing.
- Nick Yang

★★★☆☆
Phuket airport is about to open the new terminal, this should make everything a whole lot easier for passengers. Excellent and fairly priced parking. Slow through immigration, only because the airport is overloaded these days. First came here 28 years ago, so the update is a terrific move.
- Mark Withers

★★☆☆☆
Aktuell totales Chaos, weil das neue Terminal gebaut wird. Gerade beim Check in viel Nerven und Ruhe mitbringen
