Paphos International Airport is an airport located in the city of Paphos, on the west coast of Cyprus. It is the second largest airport in the island nation and is a major hub for tourism, with thousands of travelers passing through its gates each year.
The airport was first opened way back in 1974 with just one runway, making it one of the oldest airports in Europe at the time. Since then it has gone through several renovations and upgrades to keep up with modern aviation standards. Today, the runway has been expanded to accommodate larger aircraft such as wide-body jets as well as better ground facilities and air traffic control systems. Additionally, it now has two terminals – a domestic terminal for flights within Cyprus and an international terminal for international destinations.
Paphos International Airport is served by over 20 airlines from across Europe and beyond, providing direct connections to many popular holiday destinations such as Athens, London Heathrow, Barcelona, Amsterdam Schiphol and Rome Fiumicino. There are also numerous charter operators that offer flights to other European cities during peak seasons throughout the year. The airport is equipped with all necessary facilities and amenities including duty free shops, restaurants and bars, car rental services, banking services and more.
In addition to serving tourists visiting Cyprus from abroad, Paphos International Airport handles a large number of cargo shipments each day for import/export purposes due to its strategic location near the major transportation routes in the Mediterranean Sea region. Furthermore, many celebrities heading to their luxury holiday homes in Paphos often fly into this airport instead of Larnaca International Airport which is further south on the island nation.
Overall, Paphos International Airport has certainly grown over its decades since its opening but still manages to retain a cozy yet efficient atmosphere that isn’t found at many other airports around Europe – something that continues to attract tourists from far and wide who come seeking sun-soaked adventures in nature or looking forward to exploring historical sites along this beautiful coastline of Cyprus.
