Het is eigendom van de overheid en heeft zowel charter- als lijnvluchten. Het is de drukste in de zomer en een bestemming voor veel Europese steden. Het werd opgericht in 1937 en genoemd naar de eerste gouverneur van Griekenland, Ioannis Kapodistrias. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd het gebruikt door zowel Duitse als Italiaanse troepen en had het een landingsbaan van 600 meter. Vandaag is de landingsbaan 2.373 meter (7.785 voet) en heeft één terminal.
CFU zag zijn eerste commerciële vlucht in 1949 toen een klein vliegtuig met zeven passagiers uit Athene op de luchthaven aankwam. De oorspronkelijke terminal werd in 1962 vervangen toen meer luchtvaartmaatschappijen zoals Aristoteles Onassis’ Olympic Airways internationale vluchten aanboden die zowel een terminal als een luchtverkeerstoren nodig hadden.
Reizen naar CFU is gemakkelijk. Er zijn bussen, taxi’s en autoverhuurders om u van en naar de terminal te brengen. Er zijn 271 parkeerplaatsen met een hek en beveiliging voor zowel kort als lang parkeren. Inkopen en verfrissingen zijn gemakkelijk te vinden in de terminal.

Het duurt ongeveer 6 mins om de 1.6 mi (2.6 kilometers) tussen het centrum van Kerkyra/corfu en Corfu Luchthaven, waardoor het toegankelijk genoeg is om eventuele reisplannen te vergemakkelijken en op te vangen.
