Newark Liberty Airport (IATA: EWR, ICAO: KEWR), is an airport serving the Newark area in United States. This airport has three runways; two of them are asphalt, and one is an asphalt/concrete combination. Over 15 million passengers went through the doors and 211,263 aircraft movements were counted in 2020. The normal traffic for this airport is 46 million. It is a major airport for the New York City area.
EWR opened for business in 1928 and was the first airport to serve the New York City area. It received the first air traffic control tower and lights for night flights in the United States. In 1935, its art deco administration building was dedicated by Amelia Earhart. The United States Army took over the airport during WWII, and in 2002, it was renamed from the Newark International Airport to the Newark Liberty International Airport in honor of the September 11 victims and its proximity to the Statue of Liberty.
There is short-term parking and economy parking that requires a shuttle to get to any one of the three terminals. Ground transportation includes buses, taxis and van services, as well as rental cars.

Not a fan of this airport. It feels old and sometimes difficult to navigate. Transfer from international to domestic is a small nightmare. Difficult to find bus between terminals, and not very easy to figure out where you're supposed to deliver your checked luggage. Never had a problem with long lines in immigration, but that might just be lucky. Public transport is a bit dingy going into the city (but much cheaper than taxi).”

Getting to Newark Airport isn't particularly difficult, though rental car companies are spread out. Check in experiences vary wildly depending on where you are. The United Economy class checkin at Terminal C was wildly busy and a bit confusing. United First class checkin at Terminal C and economy checkin at Terminal A were a bit more controlled. TSA Precheck in Terminal C went quickly later in the day, while it was much longer at 7 am. Security in Terminal A2 for United Express was problematic, as there wasn't a dedicated line. The terminal facilities are nice, though in some parts of the airport, there are very limited stalls. Wifi did not work on the day I was there and needed it. Food and retail services have changed, and it is now difficult to find a quick meal that is inexpensive.”

While check-in was no issue at Newark, security was an absolute nightmare. Luckily, I planned to arrive at the airport 3 hours ahead of my flight. Once you are at your concourse and through security, options for dining and shopping are very limited, so make sure to plan ahead!”
