It has two asphalt runways. One is 2,990 meters and the other is 3,660 meters long. Over 21 million passengers passed through the airport in 2021-2022 thanks to the 50-plus airlines that stop at BOM. There are two terminals at the airport with three structures apiece. Terminal 1 handles domestic flights, while Terminal 2 handles international traffic.
BOM was developed from an old 1930s RAF airport and used the abandoned hangars as passenger terminals. It was unable to handle the newer jumbo jets of the 1970s, and the terminals were trying to move more people than they were built for, so the 70s saw growth and change at the airport. In the 2000s, more modernizations were done to the runways, terminals and other existing structures. A new Air Traffic Controller tower is the second tallest in India.
Spots are available for long- and short-term parking. Ground transportation options include metro, buses and rental cars.
