Lyon Saint-Exupery Airport, also known as Lyon-Satolas Airport, is an international airport located in the Rhône and Ain departments of southeastern France. The airport is named after the famous French aviator and author, Antoine de Saint Exupéry. It serves as a hub for Air France, HOP!, Transavia France, EasyJet Switzerland and Volotea. Located about 20 km (12 mi) east of Lyon city center, it has two runways and is the second busiest airport in France after Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.

In 2019, Lyon Saint-Exupery served over 11 million passengers with over 80 destinations available by nonstop flights all around Europe as well as some intercontinental links. In addition to domestic airports such as Marseille Provence Airport or Toulouse Blagnac International Airport, direct flights from the airport include major cities like London–Heathrow or Madrid–Barajas in Europe; Amman and Dubai in Asia; Cairo–International in Africa; Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport or Toronto Pearson International Airport in North America. The busiest route operated at Lyon Saint-Exupery is to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport which alone accounts for about 35% of all passengers carried by the airport each year.

Also based at the airport are Ryanair Sun Cargo, FedEx Express and UPS Airlines who have freight operations there. There are a total of four terminals onsite including one dedicated exclusively to business aviation with such services like aircraft rental or maintenance; additionally there is a new terminal under construction which will open in 2021 replacing the current Terminal 1 building — this new terminal complex will offer larger capacity accommodating more than 15 million passengers per year plus more shopping opportunities and improved connections between terminals via two underground walkways. There are several train stations connected directly to the terminals with regular scheduled rail service offered by SNCF towards downtown Lyon as well as other French cities such as Grenoble or Valence TGV station among others.

The surrounding area offers plenty of amenities to travelers including hotels conveniently located nearby such as Ibis Styles Lyon Aeroport or Novotel Lyon Bron Eurexpo for those who need accommodation near the premises; banks and currency exchange offices located inside each terminal building plus various restaurants, cafés and snack bars throughout the main concourses serving typical French dishes alongside many international specialties.

                Lyon Saint-Exupery Airport Reviews

                ★★★☆☆
Lyon airport lies a good distance outside the city, and as far as I know, the only reasonable ways of getting there are the Rhonexpress train from the center of the city (at a fairly inflated rate of approximately €16 euros for a one way ticket) and taking a taxi (which can set you back €80 or even more depending on the distance and traffic of course). Check-in desks are easy to find, and at least in Lufthansa's case dropping off baggage is usually a breeze, especially if one already has a boarding pass. The security check points, on the other hand, seem to be staffed with people with very limited language skills and no understanding of customer service. All in all, the terminals are pretty basic with no frills and there's a bit of a worn out feeling to the place, especially the restrooms which also tend to be icky. Anyway, this small airport gets the job done for the most part, just don't expect to enjoy the experience to any meaningful degree.

                ★★★★☆
Liked : not too big, quick checkin, quick taxi before/after takeoff/landing Didn't like : very poor food service: employers unruly and sometimes nasty + very expensive , bad view over the planes and the runway
                - DoubleH63

                ★★☆☆☆
Very bad bagage claim .... 45mn waiting (as usual here) and the business/priority were delivered last. Airport crew seemed a bit lazy: while we had to walk down from the plane to the terminal, they were staying nearby the terminal door and waving to us to show the way
                - Christophe Albert

                ★☆☆☆☆
You have to take the bus to get to the rental cars parking, you have to walk for 15 min between the aircraft and the public area in sinister corridors, not heated. FLows are not well managed, as you go back and forth, through the luggage delivery belts area, get in public area and then walk backward, towards the bus stop for rental cars.
                - Antoine

                ★☆☆☆☆
appalling third rate airport. extremely slow security lines. no where beyond security at F gates to get a drink and the cafe only had 2 very curled up baguettes. got some wine at duty free and the nice assistant went and got us some plastic cups from the staff rest room.
                - Peter Arrigoni

                ★★★☆☆
Really expensive moving back and forth to the airport. It's kind of unbelievable that rhone express is the only way to reach the airport. It's much cheaper going from the airport to geneva by bus than to lyon by tram...
                - Raffaele

                ★☆☆☆☆
The security process was outrages. It took well over an hour and due to high demand and lack of personel at immigration (only 2 officers were available for hundreds of passengers) the security lanes were temporarily shut down. We had to run to catch the flight which was finally delayed as other fellow passengers were stuck in security as well
                - Notaregular

                ★★★★☆
Fairly small airport. Lots of construction right at the moment (May 2017). Had to transfer from Terminal 1B to Terminal 2. Not a lot of signage to facilitate that. Wifi easy to connect to.
                - Denise Egglestone

                ★★☆☆☆
Very poor customs arrangement and missing flighton baggage claim monitor casuing delay (had to go to baggage claim desk to figure out where my lugage is)
                - Michal Bures

                ★☆☆☆☆
