Kaunas Airport is a commercial airport located in the city of Kaunas, Lithuania. The airport is the largest and busiest airport in Lithuania, with over 2 million passengers traveling through it annually. Kaunas Airport has two terminals – one for international flights and one for domestic flights. The airport is also served by a variety of airline carriers that offer direct flights to many European cities, as well as some destinations in Asia and Africa.
The airport has been operated since 1932, when it was known as Vytautas Magnus International Airport. In the past, the airport had low capacity due to its single runway and limited infrastructure; however, recent renovations have improved its capacity significantly. Today, the airport consists of two runways that can handle large aircrafts such as Boeing 747s or Airbus A320s, along with other smaller aircrafts such as Cessna 172s or ATR 42s. It also boasts several new buildings, which include a terminal building constructed in 2018 and an air traffic control tower constructed in 2019.
Kaunas Airport offers several passenger amenities that make traveling easier and more enjoyable. These include free Wi-Fi throughout the entire facility, information desks where travelers can obtain assistance from staff members, currency exchange offices where travelers can exchange their money before their flight or after arrival at the airport, car rental services for those who wish to rent a car during their stay, shopping facilities for those who want to do some last-minute souvenir shopping before they catch their flight back home; and food courts serving both local Lithuanian cuisine and international fare.
In addition to its passenger amenities and infrastructure improvements completes in recent years, Kaunas Airport continues to make strides forward towards enhancing safety and security around the facility’s premises. In 2020 alone, Kaunas Airport invested over €1 million into improving its existing security systems with advanced CCTV surveillance cameras installed throughout the grounds of the facility – helping to keep an eye on everything that goes on within its walls every day.
Kaunas Airport makes use of modern technology for aircraft navigation too – recently introducing GPS navigation system that allows pilots to find their way around the skies above Kaunas much more quickly than ever before; allowing for safer landings & take-offs from this busy international hub every day!
