JAPAN. DFS Group launched its annual gifting campaign, themed “Give Joy”, with a spectacular event on 24 November at T Galleria by DFS, Okinawa. The leading luxury retailer showcased its first ‘Personalization Gift Shop’ concept, where a curated luxury gift range can be personalised.
The evening began with Japanese celebrity Sumire joining DFS Group Managing Director Japan and Korea Nicolas Villeger and Jo Malone London Regional Brand Director Garlie Ip in switching on the spectacular lights on a towering Jo Malone London Christmas tree. The lighting ceremony was followed by a performance from a local gospel choir.
Over 300 guests, VIP customers and international media from Japan and China including Hong Kong and Macau were in attendance. T Galleria by DFS, Okinawa, Japan was transformed for the evening, with a DJ playing as guests tried the personalisation services.
These included monogramming leather goods and adorning t-shirts and tote bags with Japanese illustrator Foxy’s six DFS exclusive emoji iron-on patches. Guests also enjoyed gifting-themed entertainment including a life-size advent calendar with holiday gifts, a special visit from Santa Claus and a “candygram” corner for guests to pick and mix treats.
“We are delighted to kick off the festive season at T Galleria by DFS, Okinawa by bringing the excitement of discovery and the luxury of personalisation to our global travelling customers,” said DFS Group Executive Vice President Merchandising Ariel Gentzbourger. “Thanks to our unique approach to gifting, and our understanding of what our customers are seeking, we have created a shopping experience that is a joy in itself.”
DFS’ stores downtown and at Naha Airport in Okinawa are the only locations in Japan where Japan residents can purchase ‘domestic’ duty free shopping.
As reported, DFS’ “Give Joy” campaign will continue worldwide at 13 downtown T Gallerias and airport stores, along with a calendar of personalisation shopping experiences, until 1 January 1.
