Don Mueang International Airport is one of the busiest airports in Southeast Asia and serves as a hub for several airlines. It is located approximately 13 km (8 mi) north of Bangkok’s city centre, making it accessible to passengers travelling to and from the capital of Thailand. The airport has two active terminals – Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 – that together serve more than 54 million passengers every year.

The history of Don Mueang International Airport dates back to 1914, when the Royal Thai Air Force Base was established at Don Mueang. It then became an international airport in 1924 after King Rama VI approved its use for civil aviation purposes. Since then, it has seen immense growth and expansion over the years, becoming one of the most important aviation hubs in Thailand.

Don Mueang International Airport provides tourists with a wealth of amenities, including shops, restaurants, lounges, massage parlours and even a golf course. For convenience, there are also free shuttles available to take travellers from the airport to nearby hotels, shopping centres or other attractions. The airport also provides numerous commercial services such as banking facilities, currency exchange services and car rental options for tourists who need transportation during their stay in Bangkok.

In addition to serving as a major passenger hub for international flights around Southeast Asia and beyond, Don Mueang International Airport is also home to several cargo carriers such as DHL Express and UPS Express Services. This makes it an ideal point for businesses looking to send goods out of the country quickly and efficiently. On top of that, it features the highest number of domestic routes among all Thai airports; therefore adding further weight to its reputation as a key transport facility in the region.

In recent years, Don Mueang International Airport has been upgraded with new technology such as state-of-the-art air traffic control software and radar systems that help improve efficiency while ensuring safety standards are met. As part of this upgrade process, they have also introduced modern public transport links between Don Mueang Airport and neighbouring locations like Suvarnabhumi Airport or U-Tapao International Airport through rail connections or expressways. These connections have made it much easier for passengers travelling from outside Bangkok to access this busy aviation hub with ease and convenience on their journey into or out of Thailand’s capital city.

Worst airport ever. Due to ungoing reconstruction the navigation around airport is a complete mess. Terminal is overcrowded by passangers but on the other hand finding someone who could give you some information is a miracle.

God awful airport in serious need of renovation. Immigration is slow and inefficient, especially late at night when most of the desks are closed and the Chinese flights arrive en masse. Expect to wait at least 30-60mins to pass through at this time of day. Otherwise, it serves its purpose well enough. Also, make sure taxi drivers use their meters. There is an official, 50 baht surcharge which must be added to the meter price on leaving the airport. Allow plenty of time to get to Don Mueang when departing, especially during the day as traffic jams are common and frequent in this part of Bangkok. Getting the BTS to Mo Chit and then taking a taxi from there will ensure the shortest travel time. One upside of this airport is its viewing area where aviation enthusiasts can engage in some serious knee rubbing.... and some photography.
