It has one terminal, and it was revamped in 2014 to handle more traffic. Numerous seasonal flights and charters come to Gran Canaria Airport, and there are several airlines with scheduled flights all year.

LPA was opened in 1930 and became an important stop for the Canary Islands. The passenger terminal was built in 1946, but the runway was not built until 1948 and finished in 1957. In the 1960s, the terminal was upgraded, a new control tower was built and a transmission station was installed. At one point, the airport was a backup emergency stop for the NASA space shuttle.

Parking for LPA is abundant for both long- and short-term with easy access to the terminal. Ground transportation includes buses and taxis.

Gran Canaria Airport Reviews

★★★★☆
Nice and clean airport.

★★★☆☆
30' para sacar las maletas

★★★☆☆
Check in with singlöe lines for waiting and single queing. Secxurity check without enough space to unpack handluggae and carry on items as well as too little area for backing it back into its place. Too small trays for loose items. Very bad information on flight departures deisplay. Initally the flight was deelayed than it suddenly started boarding approx 35 min before the displayede time and without any dedicated announcement
- Jan Waldow

★★★★★
Relaxed airport. Easy check in and a nice visitor terrace where you can sit and overview the airport. The Spanish air Force is also located at Gran Canaria airport at the other side of the field. F18 Hornets, fighter aircraft air based here, as SAR aircraft of the Navy .
- Jos Leendertse

★★★☆☆
Aircraft was parked far away, so a bus was neccessary. Short way from leaving bus to the baggage claim. At the Baggage claim you will find a small store 24h/7d opened but very expensive. It takes more than 30 minutes until my luggage came, but it was the only flight at this time which needs to get prepared. Temperature inside was hot, about 30 degree.

★☆☆☆☆
Arrived throughg security at 19:20 to find every retail outlet closed and locked, with the exception of the "Duty Free " shop, who charge more than standard shop prices, as Gran Cararia is a non-EU country, and has no Duty or VAT on goods anywhere! Not possible to obtain any food at such an early time in the evening, which is an alsolute disgrace. If travelling through Gran Cararia after 5pm, bring your lunch!
- Fergus Martin

I`m not gonna tell the same as the others, I will just give you a very good tips!: If you have to buy something in any of the small shops, be VERY observant when items are beein scanned. They are extreme! They will ask you if you want everything you don´t need, and they might put in something you don´t want without asking! Sodas costs 3,25EUR, I did buy 3 but I had to pay 10,75, then I got a "free" gum. Bastards!!!!!

Really good little airport with plenty of amenities, wasnt busy for a day in July, took about 3 hours to reach the hotel in maspalomas as it was on the other side of the island to the airport but the airport itself was very pleasant and well mentained
- Tommy McCreight

★★★☆☆
Terrible handling services. We waited 1 hour on board because the staff couldn't count properly the number of stored bags and thus finish the departure protocol.
